This shawl / dupatta / scarf is painted by hand on pure cotton once with a fine silk border, after the weaving is completed. There are a number of different styles of painting, like 'Bharni', 'Gonna' or Tatto, but the common traits are colours and the use of black lines to define the border of the subjects. Motifs are peculiar to the area and the most common ones are fish, birds, and deities from the culture.
